Who Else Went To This Morning Live 2019?

What a week we’ve had here at The Little Keepsake Company! Did anyone see us at This Morning Live with Phillip, Holly and the rest of the crew?

If not, there’s always next years show, it’s really worth going if you love shopping and This Morning (of course).

Everyone who came to say hello loved our jewellery and the comments and praise made it just that little bit more special.

We even got chance to hear some of the reasons and stories behind why our customers bought our keepsakes (which was truly heartwarming), such as this one:

Treated myself to something I have wanted for a long long time. Usually necklace lockets are used as sentimental pieces with pictures of loved ones, including those who have passed away. I wanted something different.

After visiting @keepsakeco last year to have Liv’s 18th bracelet made, I was so happy with the beautiful piece, I decided to make a return to them this year at ‘This Morning Live’. After deliberation for the final design, I am overwhelmed at just how beautiful my bracelet is. It isn’t something the lovely ladies usually do but they were happy to create it with me. It is perfect!

My Nan and Grandad were my biggest supporters. Guiding me, looking after me and my brother and always telling me I can do whatever I wanted to because they would always support my dreams.

It has been 19 and 20 years since Nan and Grandad went to heaven but they are always with me.

On Wednesday we were filmed setting up (thanks for showing my bum on TV!!) and we gifted some of the presenters with a few keepsake items.

Holly opted for our Duo initial necklace with the initials of her 3 children, plus a unicorn necklace for her daughter and Rochelle had a Gold initial necklace.

Our bestsellers at the show were:

  1. 18ct Gold Vermeil Bumble Bee Necklace
  2. Sterling Silver Baby Bangle
  3. Gold Initial Necklace

Now, we still have a few of these left in stock but are due to run out shortly, so we’ve marked them at half price until they’ve all gone.

Top Tips For Getting Baby Prints

A keepsake engraved with a real hand or footprint is a wonderful gift for new parents. There’s no minimum age for taking baby prints, although sometimes it can be tricky to get a clear print from very young infants. Here are our top tips for getting the best results.

 Use a mess free kit

Newborns are not known for keeping perfectly still, and using ink on a squirming, wriggly hand or foot is often a recipe for disaster! Fortunately, there’s an easier way – the Magic Inkless Print Kit is suitable for all ages and is completely mess free. Clean and easy to use, you simply wipe a hand or foot on the inkless wipe, press onto the special paper, and watch the print appear. Magic!

Wait until they’re asleep

If you’re taking a print from a particularly wriggly baby, waiting until he or she is asleep may be the best way of getting a clear print. Have the supplies assembled next to the cot and ready to use when a good opportunity arises. A small amount of tape will help to hold the paper in place on a firm surface, such as a placemat or clipboard.

Get in position

Make sure you have something hard to lean on, such as a table or hard-backed book. Taking a print may be easier if you have a partner to hold the baby while you take the print, or vice-versa. If your baby is awake and clenching his or her fist you can try gently tickling the hand to encourage them to open it. If you are taking prints from an older child, talk them through the process and have them practice putting their hand on the paper before you use the inkless wipe.

Press gently onto paper

Once you have applied the wipe evenly over the baby’s hand or foot, press it gently onto the paper to ensure the creases in the skin show up clearly. If you are taking a footprint, place the heel of the baby’s foot on the paper first and then roll the rest of the foot down, with the toes touching the paper last.

Print kits are a great gift for new parents, but you can also have hand or foot prints made into a special keepsake that they will treasure forever. View our range of engraved charms, bracelets, necklaces, keyrings, and other gifts on our website.

Make A Pet Owner’s Day!

We are definitely a nation of pet lovers – so much so that some forward-thinking companies have started offering employees ‘fur-ternity’ leave to give them time to adjust to life with their new family members. If you know someone who’s bringing home a furry friend for the first time, we have a wonderful way to celebrate the occasion. Read on to find out how to make a pet owner’s day!

Step 1: Get a print kit

Don’t worry about getting ink all over your best friend’s carpet – our Magic Inkless Print Kit is completely mess free! Suitable for both human fingerprints and pet paw prints, it contains non-toxic wipes and reactive paper that are safe and easy to use. Print kits are usually £7.50, but when you purchase an engraved keepsake from The Little Keepsake Company you can add a kit to your gift for just £3.

Step 2: Swipe a paw

The trickiest part of this step will be making sure your gift recipient doesn’t see what you’re doing! Simply wipe a paw with the inkless wipe, press onto the special paper, lift, and watch the grey print magically appear!

Step 3: Choose a keepsake

Once you have your paw print ready, you can choose a special engraved keepsake that your recipient will be able to carry with them every day to remind them of their furry buddy. Our sterling silver heart necklace has room to add a pet’s name next to the print and their date of birth on the reverse side if you would like. If your recipient wears a charm bracelet, you could give her this gorgeous sterling silver mini heart charm engraved with a paw print and available with a jump ring, charm carrier, or trigger clasp. Want to add an adorable photo to your gift? How about this lovely rose gold vermeil heart locket – it opens like a book so you can enclose a special photograph or other keepsake inside. And for recipients who prefer practical rather than pretty presents, we have a range of engraved keyrings that are hand crafted from solid silver and come in a range of different shapes.

Step 4: Make their day

We’ll send your gift approximately 1-4 days working days from the time we receive your print kit. All that’s left for you to do is surprise your pet owner with a thoughtful, personal keepsake they can treasure fur-ever.

You can view our full selection of engraved gifts on our website, along with a wide variety of other unique personalised gifts to suit all occasions.

Charms: A Fascinating History

Sterling Silver Dainty Bumble Bee Charm

You may be thinking about gifting a charm to a loved one for a birthday or other special occasion. Did you know that charms and charm bracelets have been around since the Neolithic era? Read on to find out more about their fascinating history.

Who wore the first charm bracelet?

We can’t tell you exactly who wore the first charm bracelet, but they lived a considerably long time ago! During the Neolithic era (4500 -2300 BC), hunters picked up unusual pieces of bone, shell, or wood, and carried them around for luck. Elaborate bracelets dating back to this period have been discovered in archaeological sites around the world. In Egypt, the Pharaohs were buried with elaborate gold and silver jewellery embedded with rare precious stones and wore the first recognisable charms as early as 3000 BC. With very short lifespans by modern standards, the Egyptians were obsessed with preparing for the afterlife, and used charms as protection from evil spirits and status symbols, so the gods would place them in their proper situation after death.

How did charms become associated with people’s personal lives?

During the Roman Empire, early Christians would use the fish charm (ichthys) to identify themselves as followers of Christ. By hiding the charm under their clothing, they could show it to fellow Christians to gain admittance to secret worship activities. Meanwhile, Jewish scholars wrote passages from Jewish law on tiny slips of parchment and wore them in gold amulets around their necks – an early version of modern-day lockets that people use to keep important personal objects close to their hearts.

Who started the fashion trend?

Until the 19th century, charms were mostly worn as superstitious symbols to ward off evil, but Queen Victoria popularised them as luxury jewellery items among the European noble classes. A big fan of charms, she often gave them as gifts, and wore charm jewellery designed by her beloved husband, Prince Albert. After Albert died, she popularised mourning charms made from lockets of hair, onyx, French jet, or black enamel. Capitalising on the luxury jewellery trend, Tiffany & Co. launched their first charm bracelet at the Paris Exposition in 1889, and its single heart charm has retained its popularity for over 100 years.

What do charms mean today?

Today, charms are often given to reflect rites of passage, such as 16th and 18th birthdays, graduations, engagements, weddings, and christenings. The beauty of charm bracelets is that new charms can be added to reflect life events, while older charms can be removed and kept as heirlooms to pass on to future generations.

Looking for a meaningful gift for a birthday, christening, or other special occasion? The Little Keepsake Company has a wide range of sterling silver charms that can be engraved with initials, short messages, or even hand and foot prints. Find the perfect present for your loved one on our website and give them something they’ll treasure forever.

5 Ways To Show Your Best Friend How Much You Care

Acquaintances come and go but good friends – the people who truly love and understand you, make time for you when you’re sad, and celebrate every milestone along life’s journey with you no matter how small – are hard to find. Showing a close friend how thankful you are for their presence in your life is a great way to nurture and strengthen your relationship. Not sure how? Here are 5 ways to show your friend how much you care.

  1. Send a handwritten card

In a technological age, the art of letter-writing is often neglected in favour of a quick email or Facebook message. But writing out a thoughtful note on a personally selected card is a great way to let a friend know that you took time out of your busy day to appreciate them. Detailing specific reasons why they’re special to you (with funny anecdotes or memories) is even better.

  1. Celebrate their accomplishments

From major life events such as graduating from university, getting a new job, or giving birth to minor everyday accomplishments that are rarely celebrated, show your friend how proud you are of their achievements with a text message, card, or meaningful gift.

  1. Make something special

If you’re a whizz on the sewing machine or an avid knitter, great! But you don’t have to be crafty to make something thoughtful. Bake your friend’s favourite cupcakes, put a photo of the two of you in a frame that matches their home décor, or pass on a recommended book with a handwritten inscription.

  1. Go on an adventure

A surprise trip or day out is a great bonding experience and a chance to make new memories. If your friend has been talking about something they want to do or try, why not treat them to a ‘just because’ day? Memorable experiences don’t have to be expensive – a picnic in the park with homemade goodies and some fun outdoor games is just as meaningful as a spa day when it’s been planned as a surprise gesture.

  1. Give them a thoughtful gift

Whether your friend could use some support herself or whether she’s recently helped you through a tough period in your life, sending a gift to let her know you’re thinking of her is a great way to strengthen your relationship. A dainty piece of jewellery that she can wear every day to remind her that you’re thinking about her is an affordable, thoughtful way of showing that you care.

Whatever the occasion, The Little Keepsake Company has the perfect gift to suit. Browse our collection of handcrafted jewellery, personalised gifts, and unique silver sterling items and show someone special that you care.

5 Creative Gender Reveal Ideas

Whether you’re expecting your first baby or your third, finding out if you’re having a boy or a girl is an exciting time! Many expectant parents like to throw gender reveal parties so their friends and families can help celebrate this important milestone. If you’re thinking of doing the same, here are some ideas to help get you started.

  1. Put up a piñata

There’s nothing more dramatic than smashing a giant papier-mâché character that explodes with either pink or blue confetti. If you don’t want to know the gender of your baby in advance, ask your doctor to write it down and then take the piece of paper to the party store to have the shop assistant fill your piñata accordingly. You can serve nachos with salsa and guacamole to turn your celebration into a full-blown fiesta!

  1. Set off a smoke cannon

Confetti is great, but it can be messy – if you’re looking for something equally fun that’s easier to clean up, put on a white T-shirt and pick up a smoke cannon! A blast of pink or blue smoke offers numerous creative social media opportunities and many companies provide a secret option where your doctor (or a friend) can email the gender after you place your order.

  1. Let them eat cake

No party is complete without a cake – why not turn it into the focal point for your big news? Ask your local bakery to create a blue or pink cake covered in vanilla or chocolate icing. When it’s time for the big reveal, simply cut it open and hand out the slices.

  1. Unwrap an outfit

If you don’t want to know whether you’re having a boy or a girl before your party, have your doctor write down the gender, take the piece of paper to a department store, and pick out two baby outfits (one for each sex). Give the outfits and the piece of paper to the cashier and ask them to wrap the appropriate outfit (don’t peek!) You can unwrap the package at your party in front of your guests.

  1. Unveil a watercolour scan

Turn your scan into a unique watercolour print that you can display in your baby’s nursery and unwrap it at your party for a truly original gender reveal. If you know the gender already you can select the colour when you order your print or have a friend (or nurse) email The Little Keepsake Company in advance. You can even personalise the print with your baby’s name for a double reveal party!
